Cupcakes, Cookies and Squares, Oh My!

If you follow us on Twitter you already know that we love cupcakes. In fact, there are few things in this world that we love more than cupcakes – okay, cookies are maybe on the same level. Lucky for us (and for you) Vicinity business Desmond & Beatrice, an adorable little bakery in Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood, has everything you need to satisfy your sweet tooth, from cookies and cupcakes to little cake balls and squares.

This local favourite opened up a few years ago after being a strictly wholesale and catering operation, and we’ve been fans ever since. Owner Amanda Mizen named the shop after her grandparents: Desmond James (her father’s father) and Beatrice Rose (her mother’s mother), who both hate cooking but love her. Amanda loves to bake and it’s evident in her products – she finds baking to be an outlet for expressing love and comfort. The goods are baked fresh seven days a week without fail using fresh ingredients and real butter – and their loyal fan base proves that we’re not their only fans!

A customer favourite would have to be Cinnamon Sugar (cinnamon spice cake with sugar cinnamon frosting!) and the Double Chocolate but we really do like ‘em all and the most popular flavour is apparently Red Velvet. For those who are a little more health-conscious, they also serve an array of muffins (muffins are healthy, right?).

So next time you’re in the mood to satisfy your sweet tooth, why not try Desmond & Beatrice? They are located at 750A Queen Street East, Toronto, M4M 1H4. You can also order some goodies online and get them delivered.

Vicinity members get one point per visit, and five points gets you a cupcake or a square. So that means if we’re doing our math right, that buying one cupcake every day after work (five times a week) will earn you a free cupcake on Saturday, which sounds pretty darn awesome to us!

PS They can also whip up a mean batch of cupcakes for weddings, baby showers and corporate events.
