The king of cream puffs can be found in British Columbia and hundreds of other cities all around the world. That’s right, we’re talking about Beard Papa’s “World’s Best Cream Puffs”. That’s a pretty bold statement, but based on Beard Papa’s reputation they’re not kidding around when they say that; these cream puffs are top notch.
Beard Papa’s got its start in 1999 back in Osaka, Japan where people from all over the little town would come to taste Beard Papa’s cream puffs and they would sell like hot cakes, or rather hot puffs. Beard Papa’s has since grown to a chain of over 250 restaurants in cities like London, Sydney, New York and of course Burnaby and Richmond BC.
What sets them apart from your usual cream puffs? Well for starters, their puffs are baked not fried and they’re made of a soft French ‘choux’ and then an outer pie crust-like layer. Beard Papa’s also doesn’t use artificial preservatives in his many, many cream puff flavours.
Speaking of flavours, there’s the Original Vanilla with custard filling, and then there’s Green Tea, Strawberry, Chocolate, Pumpkin (how fitting for the fall?!), and our personal favourite: the Dulce de Leche. If cream puffs aren’t your thing, that’s cool – there’s Cheesecake, Fondant Au Chocolate with an oozing chocolate center, and some other treats.
