Hockey’s back – here’s how to promote!

As the calendar turns to October, our nation’s attention turns to the rinks of our local towns and cities. As a small business owner you might be asking yourself, “What can I do to jump in on the action?” Well, here are just a few marketing ideas to tap into Vicinity and the sport we all love.

Morning coffee

One thing all hockey parents need is a morning pick-me-up. Offer double Vicinity points for those parents in dire need of some early AM caffeine.

Jersey day

Anyone who wears their jersey on game day automatically gets an extra Vicinity point. If they wear a rival team’s jersey…well, give them a point too! As long as we’re all hockey fans, right?

Pre-game Vicinity points

Are your customers in their seats before the game even starts? Reward them with an extra point on their purchase. Double points if they make it to the end of the night without quietly sobbing into their jerseys.

3 stars of the week

Just like how hockey broadcasters give out 3 stars after every game, you can reward your top point earners of the week with an extra Vicinity point, or 20% off next time they come in. Send a Vicinity e-blast to keep your customers informed about this promotion.

Vicinity Powerplay

During a lull in sales, send out an SMS text campaign to your VIP customers stating that for a set period of time (20 minutes just like a hockey period), Vicinity members get 20% off.

Make tickets a major loyalty reward

Do you know what customers really love? Getting tickets to hockey games. On October 20th, 2014 through to December 28th, 2014 Vicinity is launching the Get in the Zone contest where Vicinity cardholders can enter for a chance to win a $1,500 hockey road trip to go watch their favourite hockey team play. Every transaction provides your cardholders with an entry to the contest; new cardholders also enter just by signing up onto Vicinity! If you are not already participating in this campaign send an email to marketing@vicinityrewards.ca with your business information and we will send over some marketing materials for you to promote at your store.

October is a fantastic time to get people excited about hockey season, as it runs all through the winter. We look forward to increasing foot traffic and cardholder signups at your store through this exciting hockey season contest.
